Roberto is an architect and designer with over a decade of experience, originally from Quito, Ecuador. Since joining BLUR Workshop in 2018, he has a diverse range of professional experience, honing his skills at a design-build residential firm, serving as a studio instructor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and designing complex façades as a consultant.

Roberto’s expertise ranges from leading design, solving challenging geometries/assemblies, technical envelope consulting, and driving project development from schematics to construction completion. His portfolio features high-performance innovations, such as a parametrically designed mass timber waterpark in Colorado that incorporates a twisting roof superstructure with more than 300 unique members to manage extreme thermal transitions. Roberto’s technical creativity is further evidenced by permanent installations at Georgia Tech’s Hinman Research Building, including a programmable cast-glass brick façade and an interactive Moiré wall.

Prior to BLUR, Roberto leveraged his skills as a façade consultant. He delivered intricate construction details, solved complex geometries, managed procurement, and conducted thermal analysis for visionary architects like Shigeru Ban and Herzog & de Meuron.

At BLUR, Roberto’s focus has been instrumental in the successful design and development of several projects. His strong managerial, organizational, and communication skills have been vital in the Radford Highlander Hotel, a 32-story unbuilt Miami tower, the Gathering House at Lake Oconee, and currently, a development in the US Virgin Islands.

His passion lies in crafting inspiring visions for each project, leveraging novel technologies and methodologies to creatively solve innovative design challenges with meticulous attention to detail. When he is not at the office, you might find him on the tennis court, immersed in a thrilling soccer match, or enjoying the indie and electronic music scene.
