ST. KITTS COCKLESHELL BAY RESORT PLANNING
St. Kitts, The Caribbean
Stretching across the southeastern peninsula of St. Kitts, the Cockleshell Bay resort is envisioned as a luxury coastal destination shaped by the island’s dramatic topography and exceptional natural setting. The site spans more than five hundred feet of elevation as the mountainous landscape descends toward the sea, creating a series of distinct environments and vantage points throughout the development. These changing elevations provide expansive views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, with the neighboring island of St. Nevis serving as a constant visual landmark just offshore.
The master plan is guided by the unique characteristics of the landscape, organizing the resort into a collection of interconnected districts that respond directly to the site’s natural features. Existing salt ponds within the lowland areas are transformed into a world-class marina, establishing a vibrant waterfront destination that serves as the heart of the development. Surrounding the marina, a walkable “Marina Village” introduces a mix of residential, retail, and dining experiences oriented toward the boating lifestyle and waterfront environment. Rising above these lowlands, Whaleback Hill emerges as a defining landform on the eastern edge of the marina, creating opportunities for elevated residential experiences and panoramic views across the resort and surrounding coastline. Together, these varied topographical conditions create a layered destination that celebrates the relationship between land, water, and island life.
