W Austin Renovation

Since 2021, BLUR Workshop has been engaged in the renovation of Block 21, which is inclusive of the W Austin guestroom tower and hotel public spaces with direct connection to the Austin City Limits Live Theater in Austin, Texas. The 11,314-sf hotel public space renovation was completed in Fall 2024 and included a new reception and entry, main lobby bar, living room, coffee shop, speakeasy bar, 3-meal restaurant, and bar with an overhauled courtyard for outdoor dining. The guestroom tower renovation completed in January 2025 includes 251 keys, 4 suites and 1 presidential suite.

The design of the public space was developed with the experience of a concert in mind infused with the physical, social and historical context of Austin while making subtle hints of each space crafted to make a guest feel as if they have stepped inside of an instrument. From the curves and materiality of brass instruments influencing the various main bars to the wood tones of a guitar inside and out expressed throughout the lobby, the guest experience of each space mirrors the structure of a concert.

W Austin is where the musician, politician, tech giant, and cowboy meet as one, the guestroom design embraces just that. The typical rooms are inspired by the bohemian and free-spirited nature of Austin, while the suites amp it up to express the essence of a musician.
