Jonathan massie

Jonathan brings a unique blend of education and experiences to BLUR Workshop. He holds a Master Degree of both Architecture and Urban Design, is well travelled and has resided in numerous countries. His exposure to a variety of cultures has given him an acute sensitivity to context and scale, resulting in designs that are architecturally unique while still maintaining a sense of place.    He comes to us from Perkins + Will where a few of his more notable projects include a series of exhibition pavilions at the historic Fernbank Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, a pre-fab, mixed use development on the west coast and a ground up library for the city of San Diego.

He is currently coordinating the design and documentation of an extensive renovation to Chateau Elan Resort & Winery in Georgia.  The scope has many components on the site including a modernized clubhouse and overhauled golf pavilion, along with renovations to the guestroom wings and major components of the public space.  Offerings include the addition of four new bars, a new lobby and a drastically enhanced main atrium and restaurant experience.

He recently lead the design and documentation of one of BLUR’s most challenging enclosure systems, Soundwaves at Gaylord Opryland.  He was responsible for the coordination and integration of an atypical enclosure coupled with a hybrid, long-span structural system.  The waterpark is composed of an interplay of traditional building methods, custom walls of point-supported glazing and a sweeping roof form of ETFE pillows held up by the long-span structure.  Able to give attention to the smallest of details while still maintaining the broad stroke design concept, he is able to create relevant, innovative and integrated design solutions for projects of various scales and complexity.

Jonathan’s passion for architecture is coupled with an enthusiasm for athletics.  Having been a competitive cyclist and triathlete, he brings a practiced discipline and pursuit of excellence to all that he touches.  These attributes, combined with his unique professional experiences make Jonathan a strong addition and a key member to the BLUR Workshop team.
