soccer in the streets - tiny classroom

Atlanta, GA

The mission of Soccer in the Streets is aimed at being an organization dedicated to the personal growth and development of underprivileged children throughout the city of Atlanta, with the goal of providing well-structured athletics and academic assistance for those involved in the program.  As the organization continues to expand and strengthen its roles throughout the city, the necessity for innovative, efficient, and flexible learning space has become a reality.  The proposed solutions were all generated around the ideas of community, teamwork, personal growth, and enjoyment, as a way to provide a temporary structure located at MARTA’ s Five Points station and servicing the athletic and academic goals of Soccer in the Streets.  BLUR Workshop, in collaboration with Smith Dalia, and Pattern R+D, generated multiple concepts in order to provide a range of classroom solutions.

FLEXAGON- option 3

The Flexagon is a Net Zero classroom that works wherever Soccer in the Streets sets up a pitch. The concept is based on the modular, hexagon panels on a soccer ball. The modular units are shipping containers which unfold depending if the kids are studying or playing video games. The Flexagon features solar panels, a compositing toilet, and rainwater harvesting so once it arrives on site, it is ready for action.
