Katherine McGurn

Katherine, a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, graduated with Honors from the North Carolina State University School of Architecture. As a student, Katherine had the opportunity to work on her first professional project contributing to the new $160 million dollar Plant Sciences Building on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Katherine also studied abroad for a semester in Prague where she could truly appreciate how architecture has the ability to positively impact different communities and cultures. Her love for travel and adventure moved her to Atlanta where she continues to explore. She is a CycleBar enthusiast and on the weekends can probably be found at Ladybird, her favorite spot along the beltline.

As an emerging professional, Katherine was a member of the AIA South Carolina 2020 Awards Jury, where she sat as the youngest judge on the panel along with five other experienced architects. Recently, Katherine has been focused on the design of a new waterpark and 1000 key hotel expansion at Gaylord Rockies. This project has given Katherine experience to a unique project type and has allowed her energy to thrive in all the fun programmatic elements including a swim up bar, adventure river, epic surf, and slide tower.

Katherine is constantly inspired by the user experience and how an individual will feel within a space. Through an iterative design process, she draws importance to a building’s form and how one interacts with the site. Katherine’s enthusiastic personality, impressive graphic skills, and pristine craftsmanship make her a valuable member of the BLUR team.
